Lodging in a Small Mountain Town

Hotels in Silverton, CO: What to Expect

Silverton sits at 9,318 feet in the San Juan Mountains. It's a small town, and its lodging is small-scale too — motels and lodges built for people headed outside, not for people headed to a pool.

What you will find are family-run motels and lodges, most of them an easy walk from downtown. Triangle Motel has been one of those stops since 1958 — renovated rooms at 848 Greene Street, right at the edge of downtown, next to a gas station and convenience store.

Our rooms went through a full renovation — new furnishings and modern bathrooms — but the building itself still carries the rugged, roadside-stop character it had back when miners and mountain travelers were the only ones passing through.

Very clean rooms!! Even the carpeting was clean and didn't have that common musty smell you find in so many motels. Comfortable beds with great shower and good size functioning fridge/freezer. Would definitely stay again!!

Where in Town to Stay

Choosing a Location in Silverton, CO

Greene Street is Silverton's main street. Most people end up walking it at least once a day — breakfast, a gift shop, maybe just standing at the end of the block staring at the peaks. Stay within a block or two of it, and the car can sit parked for the whole trip.

Triangle Motel sits right at 848 Greene Street, at the edge of downtown next to a gas station and convenience store, so fuel, pizza, or a forgotten phone charger are a few steps away. Free parking includes overflow space for trailers and OHV transport too, if you're hauling one up from Durango. Our sister property, Kendall Mountain Lodge, is a smaller, historic building on Blair Street — guests staying there still check in here, at the Triangle Motel front desk.

When to Visit: Silverton Hotels by Season

Book a Silverton hotel room in July and good luck — book one in April and you'll have your pick. Here's why.

Summer

Peak season. The narrow gauge railroad runs, 4x4 trails open, and rooms book up fastest.

Fall

Cooler days, fewer crowds, golden aspens, and lower rates than peak summer.

Winter

Silverton Mountain draws skiers for deep powder. Kendall Mountain covers family skiing and sledding.

Year-Round

Some Silverton businesses close for part of the year. Triangle Motel stays open all 365 days.

Pick Your Room

Choosing a Room at a Silverton Hotel

Not every Silverton hotel room is the same, and the right one depends on who's coming. Triangle Motel's lineup covers most of it: first-floor king and queen rooms, a second-floor family room with two queen beds, and suites with a full kitchen — stove, dishwasher, fridge — for anyone staying more than a couple nights.

We're also the only motel in Silverton with a purpose-built, first-floor ADA accessible room. Every room comes with mountain views, free Wi-Fi, a 32-inch flat-screen TV with Direct TV, a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, and daily housekeeping, no matter which one you book.

The suites take it a step further — a full kitchen with a 4-burner stove-top, a small oven, a dishwasher, and a refrigerator, built for anyone staying more than a weekend.

Booking Smart

Booking Tips for Silverton Hotels

Book direct and skip the third-party markup. Triangle Motel's own site runs up to 15% cheaper than booking the same room through an outside travel site, and if you have questions about dates, group size, or anything else, the front desk can answer them before you reserve. For a bigger group or multiple rooms, call ahead — the front desk can often work out something the online booking tool can't.

Rates dip in spring and fall and climb during peak summer railroad season. Triangle Motel is open year-round — all 365 days, including the quiet stretch of January — and the front desk runs 7am to 9pm, reachable by phone 24 hours.

What hotels are available in Silverton, Colorado?

How can I get the best rate on a Silverton hotel room?

Book directly through the hotel's own website instead of a third-party site. Triangle Motel's direct-booking rate runs up to 15% lower, and rates in general are lowest in spring and fall.

Is there anywhere to get gas or food near the motel?

Yes — Station 550 North is connected right to the property: gas, ethanol-free fuel for OHVs, Hunt Brothers pizza, and the basics if you forgot groceries or snacks.

Does Triangle Motel have an accessible room?

Yes. We're the only motel in town with one that was actually built as an accessible room, not converted later — first floor.
